Our store on Queen Street (pre-move, of course!)
Then she found it. Just down the street from her Queen Street location was an old bank built in 1929. Despite the disreputable coffee shop housed on its main floor, its elegant architecture and corner storefront beckoned. Though the bank had long since lost its luster, the huge windows, high ceilings and spacious floor plan made her heart pound. Most importantly, there was plenty of space for her production studio and a light-filled Lea-Ann Belter Bridal flagship boutique.
Plus, there was something poetic about reviving the stately old building’s beauty. Dignified in 1929, the bank had since been converted into a boarding house, then a bar, until finally becoming a smoky, gray coffee shop filled with what appeared to be extras from a grainy B-movie.
As sure as her brides knew they had found The Dress, Lea-Ann knew she had found The Building. So, she bought it!
In July 2011, Lea-Ann began its restoration. The vintage clock adorning the façade was sent off to Boston for repair and the interior was gutted (except where original details could be restored) and totally re-done.
Now, eight months later, on February 22, Lea-Ann Belter will move to its new home on 238 Broadview Avenue in Toronto!
With its two walls of windows, soft blue walls and gleaming wood floors, the first floor will house Lea-Ann’s flagship boutique. The basement is now a modern production studio and where every Lea-Ann Belter gown will be made (with love!) by our amazing sewers, cutters, and drapers.
To prepare for the move, Lea-Ann cleaned out closets, cupboards and drawers…and unearthed pictures of her very first bride ever, as well as some other awesome memories! Of course, we will be sharing those with you soon, but in the meantime, stay tuned for pictures of our big move and brand new space.
