Iconic Weddings: JFK & Jackie

Though the US does not officially have royalty, many would agree that the Kennedys are pretty close, and today marks the anniversary of one of their most memorable family weddings!

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier met John F. Kennedy while she was a photographer for The Washington Times-Herald and he a congressman about to be elected to the Massachusetts Senate. (source) Two years later, JFK proposed, and when they married on September 12, 1953, it was an event that captivated the country.

Since the month falls during the time of year when workers needed to be in the fields, back in the day, most couples avoided marrying in July. By the Victorian age, that old agricultural community habit transformed into superstition:
