In Love with Larkspur

The pale blues and royal purples of Larkspur are among the prettiest around. Also available in a summery hues like white, red and yellow, this cheerful flower symbolizes an open heart and ardent attachment. Which, combined with their charming aspect, makes the Larkspur (or Delphinium) a sweet addition to a summer wedding.

A natural for a wildflower bouquet, we’ve spotted some wedding day décor that makes the most of the Larkspur’s long, vertical shape in really creative ways:

Baseball Wedding Inspiration

Take me out to the ball game…

Cracker Jack, a day in the sun enjoying the distant thwack of a bat on a ball, the game, and conversation between plays…baseball is one of the best things about summer!

Imagine how fun a wedding with a baseball theme would be? Unless you’re weaving a specific team into your day, red, white and a touch of blue are a charming palette that references the sport and the country in which it was born. As far as the details, there’s all sorts of wonderful ways to go: Cracker Jack favors, an outdoor reception (maybe even on a baseball field!), pennant garlands, tickets as escort cards, a baseball bat guest book, red velvet cake and wedge Converse sneakers for the bride.

Going to the Dogs

Back when the Greeks anointed this time of year as the dog days of summer, it was because the hottest part of the year just happened to coincide with Sirius, the Dog Star, rising with the sun.

We’re quite sure our furry friends have nothing to do with the sultriest days of the season (other than being the perfect companions for days spent outdoors). But, thanks to the Ancient Greeks, we’ve got the perfect excuse to share a few of our favorite wedding pooches!

Wedgwood Wedding Inspiration

When Josiah Wedgwood opened his pottery in 1759, do you think he knew his work would endure all the way into the 21st century? We’re betting not, but he might have had an inkling. After all, British Queen consort Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz became so impressed with his earthenware that she allowed him to call it ‘Queen’s Ware’, making Wedgwood a household name.

Strawberry Summer Wedding {Inspiration}

Legend has it that, if you share a double strawberry with someone, you’re destined to fall in love. This summer fruit’s connection to happily ever after doesn’t end there! Due to its color and heart shape, the strawberry is a symbol of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. Now, whether that connection has something to do with the belief amongst many cultures that strawberries should be served to newlyweds because of the passion they inspire, we’ll never know.

But what we do know is that this little berry is a charming wedding day element. Because, above all, the strawberry inspires a sense of sunny summer days, all things delicious, and pretty back gardens.

Weave them into your summer wedding starting with a palette of reds, pinks, lush greens and soft neutrals layered with strawberry details (they’re amazing in a bouquet, and a delicious favor). As far as style goes, you can go rustic chic (think gingham, family style seating, refined details), modern, traditional…pick any direction!

Ruby Red Summer Wedding

Vivid sunsets, strawberries, and roses…red captures so much about mid-summer that it is no wonder the ruby is July’s birthstone! Though stunning on its own, this passionate hue becomes particularly beguiling when partnered with blush.

Ruby red’s vibrancy and passion is a gorgeous contrast to the sweetness of pale pink, and offers an eloquent way to incorporate seasonal elements. Taken a bit further, the play of bold and soft can be woven throughout – a flowing, blush gown paired with bright shoes, a softly frosted caked topped with berries.

If pale pink is not your thing, ruby is also fabulous paired with turquoise. But however you slice it, this is one hue that’s fabulous for summer weddings!

Don’t Say ‘I Do’ without the Doughnuts

No longer just for breakfast (or a brunch wedding), doughnuts are a trend we (literally) can’t get enough of. Seriously. We love them.

These little circles of goodness are wonderful as wedding cakes, but, if you’ve got your heart set on buttercream tiers, don’t despair. Incorporate delicious doughnuts as favors, end-of-reception snacks, or part of a fanciful dessert buffet.
